Fluorescent Imaging System

The VACE lab is equipped with state-of-the-art IX81 Plus Imaging System from Olympus.  This system represents a unique combination of features needed for the experiments performed in the Angiogenesis and Vascular Tissue Engineering laboratory. This combintion consists of an extremely high-quality computer-controlled unit for 3-dimensional microscopy and specially designed optical and image acquisition equipment. The 3-dimensional imaging module includes a built-in motorized Z-drive with 10 nanometer step size, controlled by Image-Pro AMS (Version 5.1.1.38) software. The optical part of the system includes exclusive, specially designed Long Working Distance Fluorite Objectives with special correction collar that allows viewing through both glass and plastic media.

Histology Center

Histology center containing Leica EG1160 Tissue Embedding Center and Leica RM2125RT Rotary Microtome for specimen preparation. Laboratory also has Misonix S-3000 Sonicator Ultrasonic Processor, water baths, and all small equipment necessary to work with three- dimensional cell culture, peptide scaffolds and animal tissue samples.

Frank Noyes Tissue Engineering and Biomechanics Laboratories Complex

The facility supports a total of six UC-BME faculty working in tissue engineering program. It is functionally designed to support all aspect of research program including cell culture lab, peptide synthesis, biomaterials, and micro-mechanics. Most importantly, it facilitates and promotes collaboration between the tissue engineering faculty. Within this complex, there is a premium shared cell culture pressurized facility equipped with three 8-foot biosafety cabinets, cryogenic cell storage, an autoclave, six full-size incubators, an ultrapure water system, and a fluorescence/absorbance microplate reader.
